Bring Extra layers!

Bring Extra layers!

Traveling around Alaska isn’t your average road trip—it’s an adventure across vast, rugged landscapes where the weather has a mind of its own. Whether you’re heading into the mountains, driving remote highways, or camping near glacial lakes, having the right gear isn’t just helpful—it’s essential. Alaska can go from sunny to stormy in minutes, and the remoteness means you need to be self-reliant and smartly packed.

As we shift into late summer and start brushing up against early fall, it’s a unique window of beauty. Wildflowers fade into gold, the air gets crisper, and the trails are a little quieter. It’s also when temperatures start to dip and the first signs of snow show up in the high country. Dressing in layers is key—think moisture-wicking base layers, an insulating mid-layer, and a shell that’s wind and water-resistant. Your gear should work as hard as you do to keep the elements out and the adventure going.

And let’s talk essentials (Above): You’re still going to need mosquito spray, even this time of year. We recommend a natural, DEET-free option—especially if you’re planning to spend time near rivers, lakes, or anywhere with standing water. Alaska mosquitoes don’t mess around. Also, toss in a lightweight rain poncho or packable shell layer—rain can show up out of nowhere, especially as fall sets in. Staying dry can make or break your day, whether you’re hiking a ridge or waiting out a sudden downpour on the trail.

Gear up right, and Alaska will reward you every step of the way. Even if its sunny out and very warm bring gear as the weather can change quickly.
